Something's Missing In Economic News

Paul over at Wizbang notices something important missing in the news coverage of recent economic data. Will you notice?

I was going to say the negative spin at the end of the article was missing, but I suppose it's the credit towards the Bush administration that the omission begs for.

To counter that, I'd say that it (the administration) shouldn't get credit for a growing economy; or a sagging economy for that matter. I think the role of the white house in economic factors is overplayed. Sure, it's a factor: so, maybe give Bush part marks, like Clinton should only receive part marks. I can't help but liking Clinton, despite his obvious shortcomings. Still, anyone with eyes can see that he rode the wave, economically speaking (and therefore doesn't deserve credit, or blame, for the technological bubble he rode in on). High school business class can teach you that.

But I do think that article is missing the negative spin. Maybe tack on a "but we're sure to see all that prosperity disappear in the heating costs we'll see this winter," or something similar. Then the article would fit better in today's standard of media.

Excellent points, Myke. I think you're analysis is accurate.
